Carmike Cinema development plans for Grand Boulevard in South Walton

Good news for movie-lovers in South Walton! Carmike Cinema is moving forward with plans to build a new theater complex in Grand Boulevard in Miramar Beach, to be completed for the summer of 2012.

The “Montecito 10″ will feature ten theaters, highlights are a state-of-the-art BIGD digital 2D/3D auditorium and an intimate Ovation Club. The Ovation Club is a premium theater experience offering a wall-to-wall screen, leather seating, swing-around tables, upscale appetizers and entrées and an option for beer and wine service pending local licensing.

Reviews of the Ovation Club in other towns have been positive, noting the menu selections of crab cakes, jerk shrimp and made-to-order sandwiches are a welcome option for a dining and movie evening. They also report that the call buttons on the reclining leather chairs are convenient for alerting the wait staff.

Folks on the eastern end of 30-A might be reluctant to travel to Grand Boulevard since they are close to Pier Park’s 16 Theaters, but western 30-A and Sandestin residents and vacationers will welcome a new addition to our expanding list of area activities.

While it has been a colder than usual beginning to 2010, the real estate market has continued to stabilize. The 30-A area continues to gain popularity and recognition. The recent 30-A Songwriter’s Festival held in mid January was a huge success and a boon to our economy in a time of year that is typically very quiet for area businesses.

I was especially pleased to see this great travel report to be published in Boston this weekend and my smiling friend and art guru Eileen West spreading the word!

You can now purchase a second home if you have owned a home for five consecutive years and receive a $6,500 credit, as long as you make the new home your primary residence.
